Transformers age of extinction overall was not that successful due to it not receiving even half as much as the films budget within the opening weekend of the film. Also this film only received 5.7/10 stars from film critics. However in terms of portraying genre this film is successful as it shows multiple action scenes that use lots of special effects and are stimulating for the audience to watch.
Synopsis
After the battle between the Autobots and Decepticons that leveled Chicago, humanity thinks that all alien robots are a threat. So Harold Attinger, a CIA agent, establishes a unit whose sole purpose is to hunt down all of them. But it turns out that they are aided by another alien robot who is searching for Optimus Prime. Cade Yeager, a "robotics expert", buys an old truck and upon examining it, he thinks it's a Transformer. When he powers it up, he discovers it's Optimus Prime. Later, men from the unit show up looking for Optimus. He helps Yeager and his daughter Tessa escape but are pursued by the hunter. They escape and Yeager learns from technology he took from the men that a technology magnate and defense contractor named Joshua Joyce is part of what's going on, so they go to find out what's going on.

Mark WahlBerg who plays one of the protagonists within this film has had previous roles in comedy films such as Ted and also starring in the recent action film Deep Water Horizon.
Paramount has produced films from a wide variety of Genres with examples such as
- The Wolf of Wall Street
- World War Z
- Rango
Infuriatingly silly and pointless, this is the most spectacular and stupid entry in the franchise. No plot to speak of and unbelievably flat characters and dialog make this hard to sit through, even during some of the action sequences. - Audience Review I personally agree with this view as the film is lengthy and the actors performance is somewhat wooden and does not engage the audience throughout the film
On the one hand, Transformers: Age of Extinction is barely coherent, narratively disastrous, and oppressively long. On the other: Optimus Prime riding a dinosaur robot! - Sonny Bunch, Washington free beacon I think this review is also accurate in the sense that the narrative does seem erratic and boring and also that the film is very lengthy and uses CGI as its USP and this makes the film feel unrealistic as this usage might be seen as excessive.
